Is your corporate screensaver or lock screen timeout getting annoying? Is your Citrix desktop disconnecting? Most timeouts are woefully too short, not allowing you time to research whatever you are working on, or collaborating with team members. Try the Caffeinated powershell script, it works where every other Caffeine program fails.
Caffeinated works so well we wanted to share it with the world. Let us know if it works as well for you as it has worked for some of our team members.
Buff v2 and v1 Maintenance
We completed Buffv2, a Python powered Static Site Generator today and deployed Buffv2 on a team member's blog. The world's fastest framework for building websites. Crazy right? It is fast, but not the fastest. Less than a second of system time elapsed for Buffv2 to build a website, which is actually true, but others probably run just as fast or faster. My money would be on a SSG written in Go as the fastest.
We also spent some time the last couple weeks applying some maintenance to Buffv1, our PHP CMS. Buffv1 has powered Buff Labs for years and likely will continue to for the foreseeable future.
This is a new era, we are writing blog posts mostly in vi/vim again to build our markdown content for Buffv2.
This evening our team started using buz, which is a simple command line tool that stores simple notes in a YAML format text file. Have you noticed we love text at Buff Labs. We should have probably called it buf, but buz just felt right.
This is the tool we use for those simple oneliners that you always want to remember. Those bits of knowledge are always at your fingertips and easily found using something like grep on a YAML format text file.
BuffEdit has been compiled and released for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger today. We love text here at Buff Labs so it was only natural for us to bring out our own text editor.
We have all agreed to use it for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) in November to try and complete a 50,000 word novel.
Buffv1 has been released and installed on our teams fantasy football website today in preparation for our next season. Our PHP CMS complete with MySQL database, lovingly referred to as All the Stuff with none of the Fluff is also what we use here at Buff_Labs. No bloat here, just awesome blogging goodness.
Rapid Redux has been released and installed on our clients leader hosts. The first follower servers are being brought into the collective to make administration possible from a leader node rather than logging into all follower nodes.
Configurations of the follower servers are backed up and can be maintained and recovered rapidly. New follower nodes can be brought under control of the leader node and default configurations pushed to the new follower nodes in seconds.
